Day 3 – Walk on the Lost Beach.

Are you ready for a little adventure? This will require some walking, so grab your sunscreen and tennis shoes and go. You are on your way to the Lost Beach. You will have to find your way through the marina, down a trail, across some rocks and through the woods, but it will be worth it. You will have 5 miles of beach all to yourself. Shallow waters and driftwood await you!

The Lost Beach is actually not on the grounds of Sawmill Creek. It is part of a little known about park called Sheldons Folly. The beach was the old road to Cedar Point. This road had water on both sides and was washed out at some point. It never has anyone on it and is a dream to relax there for the day. I don’t think there are many places like this left within driving distance.

There are two ways to get there. The easy way: You can exit Sawmill Creek Resort onto Cleveland Rd and turn to the right and turn into the next driveway on the right (so that is about 500 feet down off of Cleveland Rd). Or you can walk / drive to the marina and walk along a trail. Staff suggestion is you take the marina way. It is an adventure.

To start, head down towards the marina. Turn left at the Mariner Village sign and follow until you see a sign that says 700-721, turn left.  Follow this street until you get to a sign that says no trespassing.  There is a small path that leads into the brush and along the lake. You will take this until it opens up onto a small beach. This is the edge of the Sawmill Creek Resort property. You will see a ridge of rocks past the beach. Climb over these and onto the street. The street is sometimes covered with sand – but you will see it if you look. Take the street to the right, out towards the water.

At the end of the street you will see an old abandoned NASA facility. There was a fence around it, and  looks to be at least 40 years old. It is a mystery what actually went on there in the past.

On the left hand side of the building you will see an opening to a small trail. Later in the summer this will be thick – you need to push through, veering to the right, to find the lost beach. It is only about 300 feet. When you see the opening of the Beach it will be worth your journey. Have fun there! But shhhh, keep the secret of the Lost Beach, or it won't be lost for long!
